aware of the rest of my time

I attended a funeral last night. 
Since Shugo was born, I have become increasingly aware of the rest of my time. Life might be not really going the way that you planned, but I would like to live one day at a time. 
Ride on the crest of wave, and/but keep being myself. That I was thinking on the way back home.

女王誕生日にフリーマーケットへ Koninginnedag

５月になりました。3.11の震災から50日以上経ったんですね。
早かったような、いろんな事が起きて長かったような。
まだまだ続いている不安な状況の中でがんばっている被災地の皆さんのこと、
忘れないようにしています。

助けあいジャパンの湯浅誠さんが室長メッセージで書いている
「長期的なスパンで復興を考える」のは大事なことですね。
今すぐに具体的に何かできなくても、きっとこの先に向けて自分ができることはある。

大型連休にボランティアをお考えのみなさまへより

５）先は長い
避難所から仮設住宅へ、仮設住宅から街づくりへ、と復旧・復興過程は数年の単位で続いていきます。福島県のように、依然として復旧・復興過程に入れない地域もあります。ＧＷは、一里塚にすぎません。これからの復旧・復興過程で必要とされる知識やノウハウを今から学び始めるのでも間に合うかもしれません。「一時は沸騰してもいずれ忘れ去られるのではないか」という不安を口にされる被災者の方もたくさんおられます。ＧＷを、長期スパンで自分に出来そうなことは何か、じっくり考えることに宛てるのも立派な支援活動だと思います。

日本では「ゴールデンウィーク」ですが、
オランダではイースターの連休（毎年、日付がかわり
2011年の復活祭は4月24日でした。）に続いて、
4月30日の女王誕生日Koninginnedagが休日でした。

ちなみに5月4日は「戦没者慰霊の日」(Dodenherdenking)で黙祷があり
交通機関が一時的にストップし、オランダ全土で午後8時から、
2分間黙祷が捧げられます。5月5日は「解放記念日」(Bevrijdingsdag)と
なっていますが休日になるのは5年に1度だけのようです。

さて、女王誕生日の日は朝６時に起きて、
妊娠中の奥さんとフリーマーケットに行ってきました！
オランダ王室の色、オレンジ色の洋服や帽子に身を包んで、
街はとても賑やかでした。

この日は年に一回の国中が楽市楽座の日。
誰でも、どこでも(一部禁止されている地域もある)、
好きな物を売って良い事になっています。

高級住宅街に行けば掘り出し物があるという友人の情報どおり、
素敵なベビー服やグッズを沢山、しかも格安（１着１ユーロとか！）
で仕入れることができました。

広場で出店中のパパママから、「これはあってよかったよー」とか、
「下着は20枚は必要ね」なんてアドバイスもいただきながら、
買い物できたのはとってもよかったです。

街では子どもたちが楽器を演奏。
「ユニゾンで弾いてるからスズキだね」とは妻の談。へー、そうなんだ。
中でもこのヴァイオリンの男の子はなかなかいい音楽性。
このまま続けていって欲しいです。

妊婦にも良いというボール。

春の光 In the serene sunshine

It was an unusual super fine day for the Netherlands. So I went for a short afternoon walk to Vredespaleis (Peace Place).

I put some pictures which I took there to twipic. flower garden

In the evening, we could see also the big and bright moon in the clear sky called "super moon".


It was the vernal equinox yesterday, holiday in Japan. From the next week, the summer time will start. The daytime is getting longer.

写真は先週の土曜日に家の前で撮ったもの。

オランダにしては珍しいほど眩しい日差しで、これは引きこもって原稿書いている場合じゃないと散歩に出かけました。

近所の平和宮（国際司法裁判所があるところ）まで歩き、門の前にある花壇の写真も撮ったり、春の光を堪能して帰ってきました。

夜には大きな満月「スーパームーン（Super Moon」も綺麗に見る事ができました。本当に明るかった！！

昨日は春分の日。３月の最終日曜日、つまり今度の27日からサマータイムに切り替わると、ますます日が長く感じるようになります。

あけましておめでとうございます。
今年もTOMONOTEをよろしくお願いします。


そういう事は年末にやっておけと言われそうですが2010年を個人的に振り返ってみます。

2010年は公私ともに激しい動きのあった年となりました。何しろ結婚がありましたので生活も大きく変わりました。ポルトガル、デンマーク、アメリカ、イスラエルとあちこち旅もしました。
仕事の面では、ピアノに加えて１月から作曲の生徒が増えて、教える楽しさと難しさを感じています。MEMOの活動もオランダの子どもたちの育つ場所を見る事ができて面白いお仕事です。
創作ではダンスの比重がだいぶ増えたほか、いろいろな国で作品が上演してもらえました。秋からは卒業作品のオペラ台本を制作開始。今年9月の初演を目指して準備しています。６月に予定しているダンス公演Homeostasisのための会議や企画書制作に年末は忙しくしていました。しばらくは水面下で準備段階といった状態です。

さて今年はどんな年になるのでしょうか。
暖かく見守っていただければありがたいです。

1月　左手を骨折！
     　 音楽を担当したダンス『TOSS』(Gizem Bilgen振付)ユトレヒトで発表。

メロディカとピアノとダンス担当。
２月　ギブス生活始まる。
     　 ハーグでMEMOの活動を開始。子どもたちにメロディカで訪問演奏。

３月　リスボンに旅行。
４月　ExNuncのパフォーマンス「Resource」にダンス出演。
     　 一時帰国の前にアイスランドの火山が噴火。
どうにか帰国し（笑）両家の親の前で婚姻届にサイン！
スペインのセビリアで『死と鏡』再演（Alfonso Padilla/Sax）
５月　千絵と５月５日に結婚！（まだギブス付き（泣））
     　 ダンス作品『Cartographer』を発表。演出／振付／作曲／コンピュータ演奏
月末に漸くギブスが取れた。
６月　メロディカトリオ『新しい人のためのファンファーレ』東京で世界初演。
     　 翌週オランダのRhijnhof Cemetryでも演奏された。
７月　シカゴのACMとプロジェクトComposer Aliveスタート。
毎月更新した曲がネットに公開。
８月　日本の家族が初めてオランダへ。コペンハーゲンへも一緒に旅行。
９月　家探し
10月　シカゴで『土蜘蛛序曲』初演。『Root』も数年ぶりに演奏された。
     　 音楽を担当した『Double Dream』（平川祐樹監督）があいちトリエンナーレで発表。。
ピアノ＆作曲生徒たちの演奏会をアムスで開催。
11月　引越し。再びハーグの中ですが、いい場所見つかりました。
音楽を担当した『pulse』（平川祐樹監督）がカナダのCinesonikaでグランプリ受賞！
12月　イスラエルでGAGA Intensive Courseに参加。

The First day, school

The new academic year has started. We had a opening ceremony at school today. Before the ceremony, I met Yannis and Gilius to make an appointment for our first lesson. As I'm in my second year of Master, I'll have classes only on Monday. A group lesson, called "Research and Development course for Musicians" in the morning, and a weekly composers' meeting in the evening. Between these two, I'll have a private lesson with Y or G once a week.

The ceremony held in Arnold Schoenbergzaal of KonCon. Henk, our school director gave a speech and announcement on the stage. And we heard the premiere of piece for large ensemble by Christiaan Richter, one of colleague composer student. The piece has an entertaining Coda. I enjoyed the ending that music gradually shifts to musicians' clap, eventually audience start to give applause, then ends up with one short tutti in a style of big-band.

In the afternoon, I went to see an apartment in The Hague, but it's bit dirty and inadequate for the price. OK, Tomo, don't give up. I'm going to see another place in Amsterdam tomorrow.

I watched a dance video of The Miraculous Mandarin(Maurice Béjart) in the evening, performed by The Tokyo Ballet in 2009.

新居を求めて

今の場所から引っ越すために、家探しの毎日です。相方のスタジオが先月末にAmsterdam-noordに見つかったため、住む場所を変えようといろいろ可能性を模索してます。ハーグで安い場所に移るか、アムスに思い切って移るか、はたまた別の街か。僕はもう修士の２年目ですから、あんまり学校にも行きませんし。

昨日は午後からスキポール空港近くの物件を見に、相方と一緒にお出かけ。飛行機を使わないのに空港に行くというのも妙な感じでした。とっても綺麗だし庭までついちゃって素敵な家だった。貸し手の人もいい感じだったが、来年の５月中旬までという期限付きで、僕の修了試験と重なる恐れがあることや、思っていた以上に移動に時間がかかることからこの場所はあきらめる事にした。ハーグに戻って家の近くのインド・レストランで夕食。なかなか美味しかった。

今日もネットを使って家探し。なかなか貧乏人は選択肢が少ないので大変です。ぽつぽつと大家さんたちから返事が返って来ているので、今週また見学などにでかけるやもしれませぬ。いい場所ないかなあ。。

2nd time, fell off from the bike

On the way to my piano student's place yesterday, riding on a bicycle, suddenly the door of a car parking on street was opened in my way. Crushed into the car-door, I fell off from my bicycle and was thrown forward. Shocked and surprised. Since I landed on my shoulder, hands and back well, I have no cuts or abrasions on my body. Of course, I had a little pain in my hand and knee, but that's all. And fortunately there was no car or bus passing by me. I thought I was just lucky. The driver and his partner walked out from the car as soon as it happened and asked me if I was OK.
I feel pain in my knees and lower back today. Humm, I hope it gets well soon.

The Holidays Are Over

Wrote email to my wife's family about the trip last week. My parents and sister came over from Nagoya, spent 4days in the Netherlands and 3 days in Demnmark. This might be the first and last time to travel abroad together with this member. It was great fun.

With Joan (choreographer) and Barbara (visual art), we are planning a dance performance in June, 2011. It'll be an outdoor performance around the beach supported by Badgast. In the morning, I was searching for the information of Japanese foundation which they can subsidize us. Although TAM has some useful links, it seems difficult to find the one who supports the oversea performances. Let's hope for Dutch foundations.

I've got to complete the rest of piece soon.

Sent some links of Baroque harp and recorder's videos to Youki as an idea for his video installation.

House hunting on the Internet. Amsterdam is expensive indeed. Though it will be a little inconvenient for me to live in Almere or Hilversum.

After having lunch, went to school. When passing through the park next to Binnenhof, I feel that the new season starts again. Time flies fast. The new academic year begins.

Return some musics to the library at school. This week they are open only from 2:00 until 4:00. Booo. I want use the library more in summer holiday. And then, I went to Openbare Bibliotheek also to return some books. As it was bit late, I got a fine.

As soon as I got home, I started thinking about the instrumentation for D-dream again. I felt that to use recorder would be better rather than renaissance flute, after all. I decided to ask M, a friend of mine if she wants to help me. I'm gonna email tomorrow.

I wanted to use thyme which I bought in June but never tried yet. As I bought a pork today, using a recipe on the Internet, I seasoned this pork with thyme, honey, olive oil, salt and pepper. Fried together with onions, carrots, mushrooms, it was a delicious dinner with rice.

早いものでもう長月

家族旅行の報告を妻の家族へメール。名古屋から両親と姉が来て、オランダで４日、デンマークで３日を過ごした。このメンバーで海外旅行というのもこれが最初で最後かもしれない。いい思い出になった。

Joan（振付）とBarbara（美術）と一緒に来年６月にダンス公演を計画している。Badgastを拠点に海辺を使った屋外パフォーマンス。午前中はそのための助成金申請先のチェック。TAMの情報が更新されていたので利用したものの、やはり海外での公演となると対象にはなりにくそう。オランダの財団に期待。

ACMの指揮者Francescoにメールの返事。クラリネットのハーモニクスについて質問された。同じ音高を普通と違う穴の押さえ方で出す奏法。"New Directions for Clarinet"(Phillip Rehfeldt, Scarecrow Press 2003)にも詳しく載っている。残りの部分も早く完成させなくちゃ。

祐樹に音楽のアイディアとして、バロックハープとリコーダーの動画リンクを送る。

Noord-Holland州の物件をネットで調べる。アムスはやはり高い。AlmereやHilversumだとちょっと不便だろうし。

昼食を食べた後、学校に向かう。国会の横の公園を通る時に、また始まりの季節だなあと感じる。新しい年度が始まるのかと、月日の経つ早さを改めて思う。

図書館に楽譜を返却。今週は２時から４時までしか空いていない。不便だ。夏休みこそ長い時間空けてほしい。そのまま市立図書館にも本を返却。ちょっと遅くて罰金。

帰宅してD-dreamの楽器について再検討。やっぱりルネサンスフルートじゃなくて、リコーダーが良さそうな気がして来た。友人のMに相談する事を決心。明日メールしてみよう。

ずっと使えずに置いてあったタイムを使ってみる事にして、レシピを検索。買って来た豚肉に蜂蜜とオリーブオイルとタイム、塩胡椒で味付け。玉ねぎ、人参、きのこと一緒に炒めた。ご飯も炊いて、美味しい夕食。
昨日妻がつくった海苔の佃煮がめちゃうま。残ったご飯も完食。五木寛之さんの仏教をめぐる旅のビデオを見ながら、ちょっとのんびり。

夜はBadgastの企画書に向けてアイディア書き出し。水や火や風や土に感覚を開くような瞬間を沢山つくりたい。野村誠さんのプール公演がどうなったか気になってネットで検索。新聞記事を読む。僕らのは完全にオープンスペースだから、観客の集中力を考えると、結構構成しっかりつくらないと難しいだろうな。Joanが出していた要素は４つだったが、空も加えた五大要素ってのがあったね、そういえば。音と空か。水谷勇さんが「空色音形気」という字を大野一雄のパフォーマンスの後で書いていた事を思い出す。色や音や形が空間の中に現れる。僕はこれを時間の上に浮かべるわけだ。

Return Home

I've returned home in Nagoya today. I spent in Tokyo last week. This is the first time in one and half year.

Grandmother, Mitsue was waiting at the entrance. I was surprised at a pile of books in Father's study room. (There is lesser space on the floor you can see..) My big sister, Kazuna who recovered from flu got home just after me arriving.
Then I went walk the dog, Cookie who almost forgot me. Bought a bouquet near the station for my mother's birthday.

When Yumi, my mother had come home back, she was pleased with it, complaining that nobody celebrated yesterday.
After Yoshihiro, my father arrived at home, we started to talk how the life going, eating Oden for dinner.

We watched the DVD of the wedding of Osamu, my cousin. He was looked very nice in a white tuxedo. The bride with a happy face. I couldn't be there, though it's edited so well that I felt as if I saw whole the party.

久しぶりの日本

久しぶりの投稿は日本語でしてみる。16日から日本に一時帰国中。昨年の夏以来だから一年半ぶりとなる。20日までは東京に滞在する。前回の投稿はなんと10月だったようだ。んー、あれから忙しかったんだよね。

ウェブの方ではニュースを更新していたが、平川祐樹と映像インスタレーション『Pulse』を制作。11月には3週間名古屋での彼の個展で発表、月末にはハーグでも上映となった。この作品が来週24日、ベオグラードでのフェスティバルでも上映されることになった。ハーグの作曲科学生の一人、Teodraが情報を広げてくれたおかげ。ありがたや。

そして急遽担当することになったGizemのダンス作品『TOSS』の音楽制作も11月中旬から行っていた。15分、男性ダンサー8人による作品。Dirkと一緒に仕事できたのはありがたかったが、もう少し時間が欲しかった。彼がドイツにいたため、リハには僕だけ出て、ハーグに戻ってきたところで3日間だけのスタジオ制作。翌日から彼はオーストリアに行ったので、最後の微調整は僕が担当した。12月3，4日にロッテルダムで発表。ソロを踊るヨルゴスが本番一週間前に足を負傷したため、振付が変わったり、ほかにも風邪でダウンするダンサーが順番に出たりと波乱のプロダクションだったが、作品は好評だった。来月はユトレヒトでも再演される。ヨルゴスのソロが復活するのを楽しみに僕も観に行きたい。

10月末に母方の祖父、斎藤喜久男が亡くなった。彼に宛てたピアノ曲、Letter4も千絵さんの12/20のアンコール曲にと作曲を試みていたのだが、時間切れ。年明けのROCEやハモンドオルガン・フェスに向けた準備に移らないと共倒れしそうなスケジュールになってしまった。いかんいかん。

塾JPPCのウェブサイトも作成し、ピアノの指導も。土曜日は午後から夜中までレストランでバイトしたり、しかも11月からは週三回大使館でのアルバイトを朝から夕方までやったり。学校の授業もあるし、ダンスレッスンも行ったりして・・・。怒濤のスケジュールに輪をかけるように、出国直前には引っ越しまで入るという鬼スケジュール。良く乗り切りました、自分。

16日は初日から友人大久保彩子さん出演のフルートと打楽器のデュオによる演奏会で渋谷の公園通りクラシックスへ。現代曲ばかりを集めたプログラムでしたが、コンディションが優れず前半は眠かった。17日にはメインイベントの相模原訪問も終え、一安心（内容はご想像にお任せします）。今日は友人とのランチがなくなったので、事務作業。あとは明日の千絵さんの園田邸のコンサートを聴いて名古屋に戻るばかりである。

昨夜は渡辺公三、中沢新一両氏による対談を紀伊國屋サザンシアターで聞いてきた。以下備忘録より。

「闘う人」としてのレヴィ＝ストロースの印象。「最初のコミュニスト」と呼んだバブーフ、そして社会主義への熱中。マルクスとフロイトと共に彼にとって重要。ブラジルに渡った1935年というタイミングの意味。財産がコミュニケーションの障害物になるという発想とのつながりから（ルソーの解説に関連して）、神話分析においてコミュニケーションの透明性（媒介があるか、ショートサーキットか）というのは大事なポイントになっている。そのドン・キホーテ的な知の探求は、スタティックなものとしてのただの構造主義ではなく、「自然から文化へ」に対する「文化から自然へ」という逆の方向性が複合的に働いていた動的な思考としての理解がもっとされていいのではないか。詩学の深淵。親族の基本構造における、語り尽くせぬものが神話論理という方向へと引き受けられていったのではないか。その制限は職に就くという現実的な要請も影響。レヴィ＝ストロースもさることながら渡辺氏の危ういものに対する関心を「あとがき」に感じる。(by中沢) フランス人のスカトロジー。etc...

オランダから着いてすぐは、暖かいなと思ったのだが、数日した今ではやはり寒く感じてしまう。これは適応能力が高いのか低いのか。この数日は天そば、すき焼き風うどん、鶏玉丼など日本食を満喫している。やはり僕は日本人なのである。ああ、「愛しき温帯」。cop15はどうなりますかね。

What's can be a spectacle?

Croissant, Cheese, Kiwi and Tea for breakfast. Lovely time.

Went to Rotterdam to have a meeting with a coordinator of Rotterdamse Dans Academie. Understanding and support of both KonCon and RDA, I'll be able to take some course from RDA. They allow me not only to use their library, but also to observe some workshops for choreograph students. And Joan, my teacher at Exnunc let me take her dance class on Friday there as well.

After turned back to the Hague, I dropped by Kringloop Holland in fruitweg. Bought a bed-sized mattress for 10 euro and 4 old clothes for 6 euro. Yes!

I encountered the flooded road on my way back home. It seemed like the water pipe in underground exploded.

Got a bite to eat at home, then left for the school for the lesson with Gilius. I showed the second edition of movie which Youki sent me a few days ago. As soon as I receive the rest of sound data, I'll do the final edit this week.

My colleague, Jeremiah had a concert, the first "Opera" as he explained, at Het Nutshuis in the evening. It took place in the entrance hall where I had the installation, LIFE AREA in last March. The performance gave me a big question; what's the concept? It was like this...

Brass choir were sitting on chairs along the walls. Grand piano on the left side. A small tent covered by black clothes was settled on the right side. All musicians listened to the guide through the mp3 player.

Atonal codes by Piano were followed by breathing sound by Brass choir. The Monochord player started by the piano and moved to the other side. The creaking sound was very impressive. Brass choir started to drink a bottle of beer.
A naked woman who tied her hands up, was dragged out from the tent toward the piano. Male and female choir waiting at the first floor started to sing. Composer appeared on the grand floor and dragged a dead mouse.

Two assistant brought foam cartons. It turned out there is a dead kid goat inside. Composer took a head of it and put it on the carbon dioxide gas cylinder. It sounded so loud that some audience covered their ears. After solo of Monochord, another man hold a gun in his mouth appeared and sang through gun with Monochord.

Is this sensational? Hummmmmm.. What can I say..

Asian to Europe

I was working for the documentation of our project, LIFE AREA in the afternoon. We made a draft in Japanese few weeks ago. Now we are writing it in English. In this paper, we explain how we made sound for this installation from concept to realization.

I think this way is better than just starting with English. First, it's easier to output in Japanese for us. Second, when we translate, we have to be logical more than thinking in Japanese. So the sentences will get sophisticated. Yes, I know that we need someone to check grammar, though.

I ate dinner with my roommate tonight. We cooked chicken and vegetables with boemboe, Indonesia liquid herb-and-spice mixes. After let it all simmer, we served it with Mie, Indonesian noodle. It was tasty. We will do this again.

I'm going out to work at the Asian restaurant. Today is the first day. I'll wash all dishes in the kitchen. It is hard to survive especially for non-Dutch speaker. But life is FUN!

Picnic to Westbroekpark

I'll start teaching the Piano. We will have the first lesson at her place tomorrow.
So today, I went to the library, Bibliotheek Den Haag to borrow some scores.
I've chosen 4 books in jazz style, 1 duet style, and classics by Schumann, Debussy and Satie.
Actually, this is the first time for me to borrow a book from them.
I hope we can find a good way to study.

In the evening, I went to the Westbroekpark with my friends. Yes, picnic!
We talked about food, culture, family and lovers.
Since we started to feel cold, we left as soon as finish eating.
Although it's July now, but climate is like autumn's one.
I hope we have more warm weather.

New facts:
"KAERU-no Uta" (Frogs' song) was German song originally,
which J told me on the way back to home. I didn't know.

Appreciate Every day

I've got a good news from Naomi.
She will perform my piece, "Death and Mirror" again in US next month.
This made me very happy.

I went to Mieke's house again.
I spent whole afternoon making a vocal score of the piece for ER.
I have to complete this step in a few days. *sigh*.

And in the evening, I had a guest at my house.
We ate dinner together for the first time in a long while.
It was nice evening to update each other and talk about the ordinary and future things.

When I think about the employment issues happens on temporary workers in Japan,
I can't help but feel that I'm fortunate.

Reflection

I was working for RAIN with the Max patch which Takuto programed yesterday to make a sound track from my piano piece. The time structure has been already fixed, though, we are searching better sound in terms of quarity and character for this piece.

I left for Amsterdam around noon to visit the Open day of Das Arts. General information was very clear and we could have conversation with some students from Das Arts. I met two visitors who are working in theater direct field. I'm not sure whether their education fits for me.

Moleskine

We had a Yannis' class, "Strategy of Live Electronics" today.
This class had started from this new year.
I couldn't attend last week so today was the first time for me.

Yannis spoke on Microphone referring to a history and type of them.
Although I knew the fundamental it was good to hear with some sound examples
such as field recording, experimental video by Dick Raaijmakers.

After the class, I went to GroteMarkt to buy a new notebook.
Since I got a Moleskine's Notebook as a present from my friend,
I've been a fun of it and I bought the third one today.

We had a new year lunch at Hakase's house.
Misaki made Kuromame, Kuri-kinton, Namasu.
Hakase made Ozowni, Datemaki, Cooked shrimp.
I brought Mandarin orange and Japanese Sake.

Then we went to mass at Church of Our Lady of Good Counsel.
I'm not Christian, though, I sang in a choir for the first time after a very short practice.
It was nice to know how they perform a ceremony.
At the end of mass, I began to feel ill for some reason.
So as soon as it ended up, I went back to my house.
Maybe it was because of cold. Or did my mind feel uncomfortable with singing?
I don't know...

After I ate dinner, Katsu-don, I feel better.
I got some greeting emails which also made me happy.

Book Shelf

In the evening, I dropped by the Erik's house to buy his book shelf at second-hand. He is going to move soon, so he put it on sale for colleagues. And I'm intrested in it.
I felt that this book shelf was good size with my room and looks good, so I took it.
Good thing is we are living very close, my place is just a few-minute walk. He helped me to bring this to my place.

Snowing

The hail changed to snow.

I was seeing snow scape through the window in a daze for a few seconds.

I didn't want to go out, though, the refrigerator was empty.

So I went to shopping to buy something to eat.

That was the only time I go out this weekend.
